Re: Chapter One
--Anima Prime, Astral City--
*One day later*
Rain stood amongst the tall skyscrapers of the city, thinking, wondering on where to find this fugitive... He sent Dominae on a general search pattern, encompassing the most likely areas, and given the kid's ingenuity, that included the least likely as well... "And with the military out in full force, we only have a limited amount of time to catch him in..." He thought aloud, crouching down to look over the edge, looking down into the busy streets below. He will hide in the place where he thinks we'll be least capable of finding or predicting him...

Xaldius would be hiding in a peripheral room in a hotel in the center of the city. He sat on the bed cross legged with his hands together. "...can't sleep knowing those bastards are out for me..." He got up and looked out the window at the sunlit city. He put his head up against the glass and looked straight down at the streets below. "I know you [censored] are down there... dont try to hide from me..."
His reflection would glare, close up to him because of the glass. "Dont you think you should stay away from the window in case there are air speeders?
"Dont you think you should take a step back and get out of my face and head?" He would continue to ignore the reflection and stare down at the streets.

Re: Chapter One
Rain sighed and stood back up, still on the very edge of the building, looking down, but his eyes were closed. He was reaching out, his consciousness swimming through the vast ocean of life, looking for the one soul that mattered right now. ... He looked so familiar, the first time I saw him... it shouldn't be hard to find him amongst these people... I can't keep my mind off of wondering who he is... He thought as he soared past several passerbys.
After several minutes of sensing about, he came across that familiar feeling. He tracked it, having been looking for any leads, but it was too far out of his range to pinpoint, so he returned to his body. ... more and more I'm able to reach out further... but at least I have a lead. He thought, as he jumped and unfolded his wings at the last moment, soaring through the streets. I'll have to be sure not to make myself noticeable like this when I get near him... He pressed a button on his commlink, signaling Dominae without having to say a word.
--Astral City, Residential Sector, Near City Center--
Rain flew directly upward, spinning as he came back down atop a nearby building. He was looking down at the apartment, but being careful not to face it directly. He knew which apartment the target was in, and didn't want to alert him just yet... A few minutes later, he heard two clicking noises in his commlink, the signal for an affirmative in taking up positions. The apartment complex was surrounded now. Let's see how you get out of this one... Rain thought as he dove down and into the apartment complex with a slight push of magic to get across the street. His simple action of phasing through the wall in his path allowed for a rather sneaky entrance, rather than dealing with the hassle of people and administrator below.
He walked forward, subtly, but casually, tracking down the right apartment again. It's odd, every time I get a fix on him, it's as if I'm further away than before... I can overcome that, easily, but still... He thought, as he stopped at the corresponding door. He took out his saber and promptly blasted the door in with a powerful wave of magic. "Knock knock." He pronounced smugly.

Re: Chapter One
The room would be empty. The bed looked like it had been taken apart in a hurry and there were random pieces of equipment just scattered all over the floor. The room was entirely quiet. He would still sense the target's presence very nearby, but he would find himself unable to figure out exactally where he was.

Rain sighed, not wanting to be bothered with this game of hide and seek he thought. Then his eyes were covered over by a visor of some sort, offering a rather more unrestricted view of the place. I'm not a fool, Xaldius...

Re: Chapter One
Rain did a full scan across the apartment, extending the range of his visor's view to ignore walls, ceilings, and floors. Hmm... now where did he go...?
Re: Chapter One
--Hiigara--
*The Primitus vessels arrive to find the planet ready for them. Localized sections of the planetary shield immediately activate to defend against the torpedo bombardment, and as the torpedoes phase through the shield, point-defense pulsar beams on the surface blast them out of the sky. A wing of the Hiigaran Defense Fleet is already present. Consisting of nearly 100 ships total, it moves forward to attack the hostile ships, supported by whatever defense platforms are in the area. In the depths of the forests, deserts, oceans, tundra, mountains, and even deep underground, hidden bases fire several dozen surface-to-orbit missiles at the attackers--each one powerful enough to destroy an ordinary capital ship in one hit.*
--Aves--
*Unlike Hiigara, Aves has no spaceborne defenses and only a few surface-to-orbit energy cannons scattered across its surface. The cannons are brought online once the avians realize the hostility of the Primitus vessels and begin firing stoically at the ships. As the pods and drones head down the surface, the avian ground forces deploy to repel them. A distress call is sent out to the Spirit of Aves--the ship is delayed getting back.*
--Spirit of Aves, In Transit--
*A ping sounds on the bridge. Seconds later, the comms officer flies up to Ackbar and Ironbeak.* Comms Officer: General, Admiral, we're getting a distress call.
*Both instantly become alarmed.* Ironbeak: From who?
Comms Officer: The Third Colonial Fleet, sir.
*The two leaders are momentarily confused, and then dread seeps into their minds.* Ackbar: Trace that signal and give the coordinates to Navigation. Tell them I want to make a stop at that location.
Comms Officer: On it, sir.
Ironbeak: All crew, all crew, prepare for exit from FTL!
*A few minutes later, the Spirit of Aves drops of out FTL...seemingly in the middle of nowhere.*
Sensors Officer: Sir, we're reading some...unusual signatures around us. They resemble those of the Star Nest ships, but something's...not quite right.
Ironbeak (afraid): Give...give us a visual.
*A screen on the bridge shows the "unusual" signatures...to be far worse than originally thought. The Spirit of Aves is surrounded by the wreckage of all ships of the Third Avian Colony Fleet. Every single colony ship has been brutally destroyed.*
*The entire vessel is deathly quiet.* Ackbar (hoarse): Run...run a scan for any life signs. Any at all. *The hawk's voice sounds almost desperate.*
*A few moments later, the scans come up completely dry. The silence continues at the staggering implications that this represents. Then, it is shattered by an alarm.*
Ironbeak: Ackbar, we've got a distress call from Aves!
Ackbar: Move us out of the debris field and prepare to jump back to Aves on the double!! The dead will have to wait until we've saved the living! (Whisper) You [censored] are going to pay for every innocent life you've taken and will take.
*The Spirit of Aves clumsily gets clear of the wreckage and then blasts back into FTL.*
--The World of New Song--
*The Primarch of Gahlven utters a sigh of relief as the Oblivion missile swarm is destroyed...only to have his dreadnought annihilated by the Primitus vessels' opening sally. For their part, the remnants of the turian armada begin to fight back against the new attackers, and Quetzalcoatl does the same. The two adversaries forget their quarrels...for the moment. Additionally, four bright beams of energy blaze up from the planet below and lacerate the Primitus ships.*

Roach
reacted quickly. His ship had regenerated and the pinpoint fire power
of the litany's Jovian beam Arrays swatted the oncoming drones in droves
while they were shredded by antimatter flack bursts fired from free
people's cruisers The Pyotr rejoined the battle much of its damage
repaired it fired its remaining Transphasic Torpedoes at the Unknown
vessels. The Free Peoples fleet formed a defensive bubble allowing all
their shields to overlap nearly tripling their defenses.
"Dawson I need those oblivion missiles again as soon as possible!" Roach barked.
"We are working on it admiral we are venting the reactor as fast as we can!" Dawson shouted back from the science station.

--Anima Prime--
Rain turned around, silent. He walked forth, trying to pin down where that presence is, while still having his visor on and his power shields fully up this time to avoid any surprises. Smarter than I thought... but I won't let you get away this time. Dominae is ordered to follow me if I exit, and if they see or sense you, you're finished...
--Hiigara--
It would seem as though the Hiigarans were ready, but in truth, they were expected to put up a fight like this. Elsewhere, on the other side of the system, massive quantum rifts formed allowing more hostile ships to enter. Unlike the others, these ones seemed freshly constructed and ready for battle. They consisted of ten cruisers and two capital ships in a loose shield formation. Still, sensors could detect several more on their way to this world. As the Primitus opened fire on the unaware ships, drones were launched to support their far away comrades.
The other Primitus fleet reacted by activating their own point defenses, eliminating the missiles with rather ease while other ships were devoted to fending off the Hiigaran defense fleet. While damaged, they still posed a significant threat. Drones continued to pour out as the Primitus did not relent. They continued their bombardment and continued attacking the Hiigarans with their full armament.
--World of New Song--
It was soon discovered that the drones were adapting to Roach's response, their shields starting to harden to take on the Jovian beams, while they still outmanuevered other strikecraft, and swarmed the main ships of the allied fleets, reinforced by constant waves of drones that were pre-adapted against hostile weaponry. The ships turned to face Roach's fleet specifically, as they concentrated on the Litany, as if sensing its weapon, while a few remained concentrated on the Turians to keep them at bay. Their shields still capable of soaking up enemy fire as the torpedoes were shot down with efficient targetting. The Rachni's beam, however, did have some effect of further weakening the already weak Primitus shields, to the point of flickering before the beam was diverted away from the Primitus ships and into the Turian fleet by an unknown means.
It was also soon discovered that this fight was quickly turning against the allies as reinforcements warped in through similar quantum rifts, though not as devastating as the last. There was one carrier, one capital ship, and five more cruisers seemingly fresh out of the shipyard poised against them alongside the earlier unknown ships.
--Aves--
The drones swarmed the surface, scouring the ruined and rebuilt cities alike as land forces, hidden as torpedoes but were actually drop pods, landed in uninhabited areas, gathering to storm the cities. Mainly mechs, but other, unknown units not seen before. As the Primitus ships continued their bombardment, the cloaked capital moved away, headed elsewhere, undetectable by the Avians.

Re: Chapter One
When he turned he would see Xaldius standing on a windowsill in the other room. In one hand he had an extension cable wrapped around his shoulder and was holding what looked like bedsheets layered one over the other.
"This isnt gonna work..."
I could have told you that.
Xaldius jumped out and held on to the bedsheets. Briefly he glided forward, but then the sheets ripped and he was in free fall.
No surprise here.
"None here either."
He looked down below and threw the extension cable, hoping to catch something. It wrapped around something, and he began swinging back at the hotel he just jumped out of, but straight at a solid wall.
I hope you have a plan for that, too.
"[censored]..."
He smacked into the side of the building, and fell the rest of the way to the ground. He hit the sidewalk and lied there motionless.

Well... that worked out better than I expected... He thought, as he landed nearby the fugitive's downed body. And I didn't even have to deal with the military hunting him down... "There he is! Get him!" Rain heard from the other end of the alley. "Or not..." He said, taking out his saber but not activating it. "Stand down, he's unconscious." Rain ordered the oncoming soldiers, whom ignored him and went straight for Xaldius. "We appreciate your assistance, sir, but we can handle him from here on." The lieutenant replied. Handle him? He said, as he pushed the soldiers against the walls with magic and threw the Lieutenant to the other side of the alley, disarming him. --Hiigara--
*Several more sections of the planetary shield activate to protect the planet's other side under attack, and more ships from the Hiigaran Defense Fleet are called in to repel the new attackers. As the scope of the threat becomes more and more apparent, Hiigara launches more missiles at the Primitus ships, escalating to nearly a hundred per volley. The respective wings of the Fleet, along with the platforms, bravely continue to attack the Primitus vessels, but the situation is rapidly worsening.*
--Aves--
*Just prior to exiting FTL travel, the Spirit of Aves goes to combat alert. The massive ship then drops out of FTL with the uncloaked Primitus ships right in its weapons range.* Ackbar: FIRE!!
*The great warship's weapons all open fire in a massive blaze of energy bolts that pour forth and slam against the first Primitus vessel's shields. Its main cannon joins the fray, smashing away at the ancient marauder with a storm of high-powered blasts.*
Ironbeak: General Ironbeak to Aves Defense--focus all available fire on the target we are engaging!
*They receive an affirmative, and the steady stream of energy bolts from the planet below soon shift to the ship the Spirit is attacking.*
Aves Defense: General, we have enemy ground assets advancing on multiple positions all across the planet--cities, the cannons, the shipyards, the foundries, the research facilities! What do we do?
Ironbeak: Deploy forces to try and hold the cities and facilities if you can--if you can't, evacuate them! Protect the cannons and shipyards and foundries at all costs!

Re: Chapter One
--Anima Prime--
Rain picked Xaldius up and jumped up, his wings extending as he flew
upward, the soldiers released from their hold as he vanished into the
distance. "Dominae, I have the target, alive and well fortunately. Get
our ride ready and we'll meet you at the EZ.
--Aves--
It was then that the Primitus exhibited more strange behavior. One of the cruisers disengaged from bombarding the planet, sending one last volley of drop pods as it cloaked and moved away. The other cruiser remained, turning toward the Spirit of Aves and diverting its power to its engines, intending to ram the larger ship dead on before it dies. Its shields are down, and its hull is taking damage, clearly, but as it rams at the Spirit, it is launching drop pods, missiles, torpedoes, and drones at a rate unforeseen before.
--Hiigara--
The enemy changed its focus straight onto the Hiigaran fleets, as one or two ships per fleet were diverted to point defense and drone creation, not wanting to be overwhelmed by the planetary defenses. This order worked to a rather surprising effect, as the missiles still couldn't hit any of the Primitus ships before destruction.
Once again, more enemy reinforcements arrived, in a third, separate area by the planet, consisting of two carriers, ten cruisers, and five smaller ships not seen before. Drones swarmed out of the carriers, swarming the local defenses and headed for the planet, as the fleet moved into a similar organization as the other two, shield formation, with the carriers devoted to point defense and drone production.
As the situation quickly spirals out of control, another wake erupts, of a different type of FTL travel, as the expected VID ships arrive, with a few more ships than before. They arrived, flanking the carrier fleet from behind, and immediately opening fire. They hailed the local defense fleets and whatever goes as an HQ around these parts.
"This is Admiral Mercer of the VID Armada, it would seem you guys were throwing a party without me. I am happy to provide any assistance as humanly possible, as well as advice if need be."

Xaldius did not move at all, but the voice within his mind continued to think and plan.
Well, at least you managed to fall into the pit of death WITHOUT spikes at the bottom for a change...

Re: Chapter One
--Aves--
Ackbar: Have the point defenses bring down as many of those pods as they can!
Ironbeak: Admiral, that one is coming right for us!!
Ackbar: Keep firing! Get me reactors to 140% and divert the additional power to forward shields and weapons--this is going to hurt!
Ironbeak: BRACE FOR IMPACT!
*Even as the Primitus cruiser bears down on the Spirit, the huge ship's point defense beams busily destroy as many of its pods and drones as they can. The bombardment of the dying vessel from Aves itself also intensifies.*
--Hiigara--
*The Hiigarans repeat the same drill as the third Primitus ships come into the field. More sections of the shield spring up to block any drones and ordinance from getting through, and those that are already below the shield are promptly shot down by the defense platforms and surface point defenses. Another wing of the Fleet deploys to defend the planet, and the ones already in the field are reinforced. As things worsen, the various wings of the Defense Fleet continue to fight bravely against the desecrators, but it is clear that they are losing the battle when the VID vessels arrive, along with the survivors from the previous battle. A response comes from the planet to Mercer.*
Karan: Greetings, Admiral Mercer. I am Sajuuk-Khar Karan S'jet of the Hiigaran Daiamid. These bastards weren't invited to this party and we're preparing a little surprise to kick them out, but any help is always appreciated.*
*The defenders escalate their missile salvoes even further, reaching upwards of a thousand missiles per launch. The missiles are now significantly tougher and faster than before, being both shielded and heavily armored against point defenses.*

Re: Chapter One
--Anima Prime--
Rain flew, his mind distracted on other thoughts. ...I can't keep
getting this feeling... like... like he's awake, and yet. He looks
down at Xaldius, then back up. And yet he's not... Rain continued
flying until he finally reached the space docks, outside of military
command. He landed a distance from the entrance and was greeted by two
of his team, Matt and Cameron, by their faces. "Well, good to see a
friendly face." Rain said, greeting them by throwing the kid onto
Cameron as Matt walked beside Rain. "This kid didn't even put up a
fight!" "To be honest, I'm glad he didn't. Having to fix him up
alongside someone else would make my job even harder." Cameron spate
back, not pleased at having to carry Xaldius. "It doesn't matter, we did
what we came to do, now lets go... and don't tie the kid up. Last thing
we need is for him to freak out like aboard the ship." Rain said
casually, as they passed through security without so much as a second
glance. As they approached the ship, Rain waved Cameron on, and turned
around to greet Lara, whom he sensed was about to jump on him.
Before she could, though, Rain turned around and dodged her attempt at
surprising him. "Nice try." He said plainly, as Lara tried to regain
balance upon landing on two feet, arms wide open but only grasping air.
"Lara, we can't waste time playing games..." "Oh you're no fun!" She
yelled back at him. "...Matt, make sure the shuttle is prepared to
leave." "Yes sir." He said walking off. "Lara... *sigh* Did you at least
make sure to cover our tracks from the military?" "Of course I did!
Suppressing their memories was far too easy..." "...riiight..." He
replied, turning toward the shuttle. "... Did the DNA scan turn up
anything by any chance?" "...Sorry, no record of him. Not even a name."
She replied, less playfully. "So... he really is anonymous..." He
commented, walking toward the shuttle with Lara following behind her.
Before they could board, however, the shuttle suddenly exploded in their
faces, sending Rain and Lara back several meters before they could get
back on their feet. "What the hell?!" Rain yelled out, as he then heard
several similar explosions elsewhere in the city, noticing one or two of
the control towers suffering similar fates. "...Of course. Of course it
couldn't be that [censored] easy... Damn Matt and his big mouth." He ran
toward the shuttle, casting the fire away with his magic as he tried to
search the wreckage for bodies... there were none.
Rain spent several minutes searching relentlessly, his mind racing,
filled with concern and panic for some reason, not realizing that they
obviously got away. Before his mind ever caught on, Matt spoke,
interrupting his search. "Uhm, commander... I'm over here." He said,
looking at Rain strangely, as he was carrying Xaldius, unscathed, all of
them actually. "...you [censored]." "...You're welcome, sir." "Just hand
him over and find out what the hell is going on. I'll make sure he's
safe from whatever is attacking the city..." "Good, he was getting a bit
heavy anyway. He'll also be waking up soon. You sure you don't want to
tie him up?" "I'm sure." Rain replied as he took Xaldius and took off,
Lara following.

Re: Chapter One
Xaldius' vacant eyes began to move around the room. He remained expressionless. His eyes came to Lara, and he made eye contact. Despite obviously being awake, he seemed clueless. He smiled slightly. "Mommy?"

Re: Chapter One
--Astral City--
Rain attempted to restrain himself from hitting Xaldius again for that comment, as Lara merely blushed a bit, a sign of obvious embarrassment, and looked away, trying to ignore the fugitive for the moment, and also trying not to hit him at the same time. They soon landed atop one of the many buildings, one that wasn't on fire or at risk of suddenly exploding hopefully. As Rain laid Xaldius against one of the air ducts, he turned around to look at the rest of the city. Red marked the horizon everywhere, as the city burned. Yet oddly, there wasn't as much activity as their should be... he couldn't hear weapons fire, sense an invading army, and the skies were certainly clear of any strikecraft or orbital bombardments. So that left the question of whom we were being attacked by and how...
Lara saw to Xaldius while Rain was looking away, having gotten over her embarrassment and slight anger. "Are you okay?" She asked, somewhat concerned, but less so than what was normal for her.

Re: Chapter One
Xaldius looked at her, still vacant, but seemed slightly more attenative. "I feel empty and weak, like there is literally nothing inside my skin." He looked up at the sky, then at the buildings, his eyes still only-half open. He stared at one of the burning buildings. "Did bad people start those towers on fire?"
Oh, he's fine, he's still capable of finishing off this broken city with my help...

Re: Chapter One
You're just so cold-hearted today, aren't you? She thought back at the other voice she could hear in Xaldius's disoriented mind. "Yeah, but we don't know who just yet. You just relax though, try not to think too hard." "He'll be fine shortly, hopefully not before Matt's report on the situation." Rain commented, as he continued to observe the city from his elavated view. "I would rather know what we're up against and explain it from there..."

So you know the situation do you? How about you tempt me some more, then ill show you that i cant be cold hearted without said heart... or remorse.
Xaldius stared at the buildings. "They're dead, arent they?..." He wouldnt specify who he meant, but she would realize he meant the people that were inside of the buildings. He looked around and his eyes widened slightly. He wouldnt seem sad, but she would see a drop of blood running from his eye and down his cheek. A red tear. He wiped it away then looked at his hand and then stood up and put his back to the wall and started to panic.
