Re: Chapter One
*Ackbar stares, and then shakes his head.* Ackbar: Goddammit. One agent of Vires was enough--now I have to deal with another...?!
*He sighs.* Thank you for your congratulations, but this...achievement felt hollow. Sure, I can face down a battle any day, but can I face a nestling's anger after I've lied to him?!
*Without waiting for a response, he angrily throws the glass from the balcony. Trailing ribbons of golden liquid and pirouetting throw the air, the cup falls straight down. Ackbar does not watch it, but instead spreads his wings and turns towards Light.*
Ackbar: That's it, I'm going out after him. You going to help me or not?

Re: Chapter One
--Litany Of Defiance Crew Deck--
Lance sat in the quarters he shared with his father watching the news as it broke From the C.O.N.C.O.R.D news net, and had the surreal feeling from having his Brother and father mentioned on intergalactic news. he continued to watch even after the special report awed by the massive parade by the Gallente fleet and seeing footage of the shattered remains of thousands of Amarr and Caldari warships. Lance lost interest as the stock prices flashed across the screen and walked into his bedroom to retrieve the book he had been reading he picked up the Ancient Leather bound tome it was a complete history of the third age of middle earth he had borrowed from his fathers massive library. Over the sound of the new report still playing in the living area he did not hear the door open nor did he perceive the figure that now stood behind him until he was grabbed from behind in a headlock he attempted to free himself but something about the hold stopped him it was familiar.
"Good thing I'm not an [censored] little brother or your body would be dead, and you'd have to be cloned." The voice behind him said releasing his playful grip.
Lance spun on his heel and threw his arms around his older brother.
"Lucas! I missed you how have you been?"
Lucas Squeezed his younger brother tightly. "Busy as all hell had to spend hours weaving speeches and rhetoric to get Sarum to step down as empress and to draft the Treaty for The Amarr And Caldari to sign. Soon the Amarr empire will become the Amarr Republic and their people will get a taste of free thinking for a change and see there is more to life than god and Emperor. But I'm tiered of talking Shop! I wanted to surprise you and dad. While I'm here it going to be about spending time with you guys, and in the company of real men instead of sniveling politicians."
"Dad will freak when he finds out your here."
"Were is the old man any way?" Lucas asked sitting down on his brothers bed.
Lance took a seat next to him. "In a meeting with some foreigners who were chasing the Blood Raiders for some peace of tech they stole. Made the battle go a lot smoother just had some Moderate damage to the Freedom."
"Fleets gotten a lot of new gear since I saw it last noticed the marines were carrying new kit too." Lucas said laying down with his legs hanging over the edge of the bed
"Some kind of equipment modernization program dad pushed for and the rest of the military finally got its act together and passed. Basically a 2 year plan to modernize every unit in the military with the best stuff R&D can pump out."
"Sounds like pops is expecting something big Ive been getting that vibe of an impending war. As if our people haven't seen enough of war in the past two centuries alone. I have a feeling you wont get to grow up in peace time either brother."
"What do you mean grow up? I am grown up!"
"No your not you look like a seventeen year old human while you may have the knowledge of a thirty year old man you wont stop growing at a fast rate till you hit a few hundred years old if dad explained it to me right. And like Gandalf said "Elven children enjoy youth longer and get to savor it." Consider your self lucky i aged at normal human pace until i made it through puberty now if dad explained it to me right I age at %1 of human rate every hundred years or something until i hit the point where I look about like a middle aged human then I stop aging all together. But you you wont look around my age till your about 70 since your aging slows after about age twenty. I dunno its complicated dad has a big book of research notes in his library on the subject he is indeed the master of genetics. Did you know the Research he had to do to clone himself and therefor create me extended the average life spans of one of our citizens by 70 years?"
"I can tell you got dads politics gene you are so long winded." Lance teased.
Lucas playfully punched him in the shoulder "Shut up."
"You ever feel less like dads son because your his clone?" Lance asked
"Never he always treated me as his son and made sure every one else did the same. I felt like I any kid with a loving and protective father would." Lucas replied staring at the ceiling
"So me being Genetically engineered from Dad and Jack doesn't make me any less his offspring?"
"No. You have his genes but instead of a mothers genes you have another mans Genes as well so theoretically speaking and literally speaking you are indeed dads son. And in a more literal fashion than me because i only carry Dads genes while you have dad's and Jacks. Make sense?"
"Kinda."
"Told you it was complicated. But any way I'm starving and I haven't had a bite of real Free peoples food since i came home for Life day so lets go get something to eat and maybe we will ambush dad." Lucas sat up and stood pulling his brother up with him.

Re: Chapter One
"A proud warrior culture is not necessarily bad, so long as there lacks a blood lust, admiral. In fact, we both know this to be true, it could come in handy. My people are no less of similar culture, as are the others. I suppose it is natural." Jonas replied insightfully. "Perhaps we just focus on the negative too much?"
Light looked at Ackbar oddly, somewhat confused at first. "Who are you looking for?" Light asked curiously, obviously not totally all-knowing like Shadow was.

Re: Chapter One
Ackbar: So much for being omniscient...I'm looking for a young male Sparrowhawk, barely fledged, named Bularr. He is my ward--I found him in the last stronghold of the True Children of Aves as an orphan after they killed his mother, and took him under my care. As to why he screeched at me and flew off...it's complicated. I'll tell you on the way. *Without waiting for a reply, the hawk jumps off the balcony and dives straight down, opening his wings a thousand feet from the ground and gliding over the moonlight-dappled forest. He begins methodically scanning the trees with his razor-sharp eyes for any sign of the errant Bularr.*

"Perhaps you are right most of my people don't have blood lust well maybe the Trandoshans and the Klingons but they are a minority"
--Amarr Prime--
For the first time in their history the people of Amarr held elections for a parliament they had little time to campaign a government was needed to keep utter chaos from breaking out the candidates who won were the most liberal out spoken Amarr those wanted an Amarr free of mindless zealotry. The new senate worked fast voting on a new constitution that mirrored the constitution of the Free Peoples and Gallente the ancestral homes of the Minmatar that were still held by the Amarr were turned over to Minmatar rule and massive convoy's of freed slaves were sent home to the Minmatar or to live in the Gallente Federation at their own choice.
--New Caldari--
The Mega corporations stepped back under threat of a never ending war with the Gallente like in Amarr the most liberal candidates were chosen Roach and the Free peoples made sure that the corporations could not fund candidates for their own interest by outbidding them to make sure the Caldari would become a good ally. Some of the first legislation that passed outlawed the mega corporations from funding candidates the candidates had to raise their own fund from the people. The new Caldari Congress ratified a Constitution Similar to the Free Peoples but less like the Gallente's

Re: Chapter One
Seconds later, a bright flash of light flies by at speeds almost similar to such, with barely a noise to sound its passage. Then, another second later, Light appeared before Ackbar, snow white wings unfolded. "Then please allow me to make this easier." He said as his eyes glowed white and he flew ahead, at a pace Ackbar could keep up with. "Not many creatures out in the middle of night around here, are there? It's kind of lonely around here, in these skies..." He says, as his light-beamed eyes literally scanned the ground below, passing through foliage and trees without harm.
Re: Chapter One
Ackbar: Thank you. *He continues flying in silence, sweeping the forest with his razor eye vision.*
*After a half-hour of this, Ackbar realizes that despite the seeming tranquility of the night, something is wrong. His skin crawls under his feathers, and an unnaturally chill wind whistles through the trees, causing their leaves to whisper in a way that sends shivers down his spine. He puts his foot over his energy pistol, but somehow that only provides small relief.*
*Undetectable to Ackbar, Light gets the impression of something evil lurking out there in the forest. Something that he has never sensed before.*

Re: Chapter One
"...I get the feeling that blaster won't help you, Ackbar... I feel it too..." Light announced softly, as his eyes dimmed more and more, Light concentrating on the sensation of the moment, of that presence. Searching, sprinting after it mentally, with a shroud of light as a shield. "... Something... Is definitely there."
Re: Chapter One
*Ackbar unsheathes the pistol nonetheless.* Ackbar: Whatever it is, I may as well try. If the gun doesn't work, I'll use my good old beak and talons.
*The strange being doesn't seem to react or even acknowledge Light's presence, but thoughts come unbidden to his mind: thoughts of war, conquest, power, and slaughter. Underneath this miasma of destruction, however, he can sense Bularr's life force...and it is nearby.*

Re: Chapter One
"... Then set it to stun." Light replied on instinct, as he swooped down suddenly, trying his best to fight the mental battle, though easily batting away the dark thoughts, it can be quite difficult to illuminate truth from shadows. He knew this and so he also knew that the closer he got to the truth, the easier it was... or, so he had hoped. "Where are you...?"
Re: Chapter One
Presence: Greeeemmuuhhh....greeemmmmm....rommmmtooooo...forrrrrvaaaaaa...
*The response is, clearly, unintelligible to Light and the barrage of thoughts strengthens. Ackbar flies lower, following the agent of Vires.* Ackbar: Do you know where he is? *Whether he refers to Bularr or the strange presence is entirely up to Light.*

Re: Chapter One
"Both." Light replied as he softly landed in a swarm of white feathers. "...and I hope it is just both." He walked forward, calmly, batting away the dark thoughts as he approached. He didn't try to tackle down the foreign language, if one could even call it that, nor did he try to pin down where they were exactly. He had a solid enough hunch to just keep moving forward.
Re: Chapter One
*Ackbar continues flying overhead, feeling the mental assault as well.* Ackbar: What the...
*On impulse, he calls out.* Bularr?
*A voice answers him, off in the distance.* Bularr: I'm here! Ackbar?
*At this point, two things happen: Ackbar squawks and flies off in the direction of the voice, calling back. At the same time, Light senses the malevolent presence begin to move languidly towards Bularr as well.*

Re: Chapter One
Light sprints forward, holding true to his name in a sense as the foliage brightens and shines with his near instant passage. His goal: that malevolent being. Whomever they may be. "Evil turns to good, shadows, to light, and you will be no different, bearer of malevolent betrayal." He said to himself silently, the wind picking it up and whispering it along.
Re: Chapter One
*An unearthly growl comes from the foliage, and then Light's presence illuminates the...thing. There are no words in any dialect of any language to describe it...to look at it too long would plunge even the most resolute of minds into the depths of insanity. A snarling, sprawling, massive mess of flesh that bubbles and contorts into impossible shapes like rotting caramel. It has no face...or rather, no single face. Images of tortured visages bloom in its mass, screaming to the heavens. Wherever it touches, any and all living things die immediately and are absorbed into its twisting, rotted flesh. And now, its crawling, pulsating muck moves slowly but steadily towards a nearby tree. In it perches a figure, frozen in fear: Bularr.*
Ackbar: What the [censored]...?!?! *He fires at the thing, and predictably has almost no effect. It snarls at him with uncountable voices and another part of it begins to move towards him and light.
Ackbar: Aves save us...

Re: Chapter One
Light unleashes an insanely bright veil of illumination to deflect that moving body part, as his eyes are closed. "... You shall not devour him." He said with a grim expression, despite not being able to see. He flicks his hand and a beam of, you guessed it, blue light shoots forth from the palm of said hand. He repeated the same action for the other, then crossed them in front of him. "I'll erase your sorrows and burdens."
Re: Chapter One
*The hideous creature roars and retreats from Ackbar and Light, but continues advancing towards Bularr. The young Sparrowhawk has only seconds. Suddenly, Ackbar speaks as well.* Ackbar: In the name of Aves, spirit of this world, I banish you from here! Leave, and never return!!
*He finishes his invocation just as the twisting flesh is about to engulf Bularr. It backs off, the monster gives one final snarl...and then disappears, leaving only a sense of lingering evil and a huge swathe of dead forest to indicate that it was ever there.*
*Ackbar immediately flies up into the tree to comfort Bularr, who is now shaking and sobbing with fear.* Ackbar: Shhhhh...it's okay, Bularr....it's okay...
Bularr: I was so scared, Ackbar...it came out of nowhere and followed me...I just flew and flew and flew, but it wouldn't stop...
Ackbar: I know, Bularr, but it's gone now. You're safe... *He looks at Light.* What the [censored] was that thing?!?!

Re: Chapter One
"Hopefully something you will never meet again..." He says, as the trees grow back under Light's radiant presence. "How is he?" Light asked, though genuinely concerned, though occupied in thought more than focusing on the two avians.
Re: Chapter One
*Ackbar drapes a comforting wing over Bularr's shoulder, who has now sunken into gibbering hysteria.* Ackbar: He's severely traumatized...he'll need a psychologist to have any chance of recovery. (Pause) In other words? He's been mindfucked.
*Still holding Bularr close, Ackbar taps his communicator.* Addrson, can you trace my signal and have a gunship sent down to my location? I need...help with this one.
*A few moments later, the reply comes.* Addrson: Sure thing, Comman--I mean, Admiral. Locking in on your signal now. The gunship is already being prepped and it'll be on its way shortly.
Ackbar: Thanks, Addrson. *He cuts the line and then looks at Light.* You may want to make yourself invisible to other avians' eyes before the gunship arrives. Your...friend? Partner? Counterpart? Whatever he is, Shadow was enough for them already.

Re: Chapter One
"Good luck." Light replied as he, and the radiance around him, faded away. The foliage looked rejuvenated, healthier than before, and blended in perfectly, erasing the fact that there was ever any dark entity or angelic being here at all. Just two cold, lost avians in the jungle at night.
Re: Chapter One
*Ackbar opens his beak, but Light is gone before he can say anything.* Ackbar: Huh...before I could even tell him "thank you"...
*The gunship soon arrives over the tree. Bularr whips his head up fearfully at the sound of its engines, but Ackbar calms him with soothing words and caresses, coaxing the errant young one into flight, and leading him into the gunship's open flight bay. The bay doors close behind them, and the gunship lifts off into the night, heading back towards the twinkling lights and promised refuge of Farruvian. As the craft pulls away from the force, Ackbar hears a voice on the wind, in a language similar to ancient Raptorian.
Voice: You have not won this day, Soft One...the next time we meet, you shall have neither god nor spirit to protect you.
Ackbar (whisper): We shall see. Begone.
*The presence fades away, and soon the gunship enters Farruvian's city limits.*

Re: Chapter One
--Aves, Shores of the Charadric Ocean, 1 Month Later--
*A vast shipyard complex sprawls over the beaches of the sea. Ackbar perches on a piece of scaffolding, improvised into a platform, before an assemblage of over three hundred thousand avians gathered inland, on the coastal flatlands before the sand begins. An air of anticipation lies heavily over the scene. Many of the avians carry packs on their backs or in their talons or beaks, and steal furtive glances at the sky. After a moment, Ackbar takes a deep breath, spreads his wings, and flies out over the huge crowd. The avians' gazes silently follow his flight, and after making several circuits of the area, Ackbar stops and hovers several hundred feet over the assembled spectators. Taking another deep breath, he begins to speak. His voice is amplified by a small receiver near his beak and projected through massive loudspeakers for the entire gathering to hear. Hovering camera drones flit around the area and through the shipyard complex, providing on-the-spot news coverage for the billions of avians around Aves who now watch this historic event with rapt attention.*
Ackbar: My fellow avians. Today, we stand on the precipice of history. Behind me, in the drydocks of the Taros Shipyards, lie the first six of the "Star Nest"-class colony ships, and collectively they make up the Galactic Avian Union's First Colony Fleet. These vessels have been designed for the sole purpose of conveying you to the world that has been selected to be the GAU's first interstellar colony. They will take you there, land, and then become the foundations for the colony, so you needn't worry about shelter. Additionally, these ships carry biodome pods within their mass--little pieces of home to aid in whatever terraforming efforts are needed. The journey will not take long--a day at most, thanks to the unique faster-than-light drives that our dedicated scientists have developed. Each of you shall have your own room within the ship you are aboard; this room and, by extension, the ship itself, will be your home on this brave new world.
*He pauses long enough to take a breath, sweeping his warm gaze around the gathered avians as he does so.* You are, all of you, volunteers. I cannot even begin to express how proud I am of each and every one of you. To rebuild our homeworld and our people is noble, but to step into an unfamiliar world for the good of us all is also noble. Today, as you set forth, you carry the future of our race with you. Thank you, for putting so much faith in me and in yourselves to take such a monumental step. Aves be with you all.
*The crowd erupts into cheers of applause and then, at their leader's direction, begins to proceed. Those who fly go through an aerial pathway laid out by floating lanes that takes them towards the boarding platforms of the colony ships. The running birds head directly into the the depths of the shipyard complex, following a series of blinking lights--a different color for each colony ship. The boarding proceeds in a thankfully orderly fashion, and soon the ships are all loaded up and ready for takeoff.*
*Ackbar is patched into a fleetwide broadcast.* Ackbar: Good luck, my friends. Aves-speed.
*He nods to the control tower, which starts the takeoff procedure. First, the colony ships themselves power up and fore their landing thrusters, which provide them with lift. Then, the magnetic clamps keeping them in place unlock, so they float freely in their drydocks. Then, in the final phase, the colony ships fire their main engines, which propel them forward--slowly at first, then faster and faster until they are far out over the ocean. Ackbar follows them out to sea, along with millions of other birds who have come to witness this momentous occasion, and watches the colony ships arrange themselves into a delta formation with the lead ship at the front, angle themselves upward, and fly up into the sky. Higher and higher they go, until they are lost from sight.*
*Ackbar and the other witnesses return to the beach. As they arrive, the loudspeakers crackle and out of them comes a transmission.*
Transmission: This is Rear Admiral Morvan of the First Galactic Avian Union Colonial Fleet. We have cleared Aves's gravity. Repeat, we have cleared Aves's gravity and are now proceeding to jump range. All colonists and crew, take a look out the window at our homeworld. She's in bad shape, but I'll bet that someday, we'll visit and find it all clean and beautiful again. And even now, there's still beauty to be found amidst all that brown.
*Then, a massive hologram projects literally from nowhere to show marvelously clear footage from one of the many satellites launched to orbit Aves over the past month. The footage displays in crystal detail the fleet soaring in stately formation past the satellite and then heading out towards the point from which they can make the jump to the new star system. The transmission continues.*
Morvan: Colonial Actual to Aves Control. We have reached the jump point. Prepping FTL drives now. See you in all a few weeks.
Ackbar: Aves Control to Colonial Actual. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: Aves-speed. Call us as soon as you can.
Morvan: Copy that, Aves Control. Colonial Actual out.
*On the viewscreen, the fleet suddenly vanishes as its blasts into FTL travel, leaving a few bits of visible radiation to mark its passage. Ackbar returns to the platform, where Addrson waits for him.*
Addrson: Beautifully done, sir. You wouldn't know it now, but I actually shed a tear.
Ackbar (chuckles): Very funny, Addrson. Do we have transport inbound?
Addrson: Yes, sir. It'll be here in a few minutes.
*Just as Addrson predicts, a gunship arrives to pick them up. Once loaded, the craft proceeds through the vast shipyard complex until it comes to a seemingly innocent patch of water and plunges straight in. The gunship's shields protect it from the intense pressures of depth as it flies deep into the dark reaches of the ocean, until a large shield dome becomes visible in the murky distance: another shipyard complex, but larger than the one on the beach. A large, hangar-like aperture sits partially dug into the seafloor and opens up to receive the gunship. Once the craft is inside, the hangar doors seal behind it and the water is pumped out of the structure. Ackbar and Addrson disembark when it is safe to do so and proceed to the end of the hangar, with Ackbar flying and Addrson running due to his poor flying skills. The agile trumpeter is easily able to keep up with his leader as they head through narrow corridors dug underneath the seabed to protect them from the pressure and emerge into the main complex. Protected by a massive umbrella shield, the complex is huge and devoted not to the production of many ships, but just one at the center of it: an enormous vessel far larger than the colony ships. The vessel is far from complete, but even its basic chassis inspires awe in its beholders. Sparks emanate from all over the hulk as construction proceeds apace.*
*Ackbar flies to a high platform to admire the view, while Addrson follows more slowly but determinedly as he struggles through the air. Gradually, a figure detaches itself from the hustle and bustle of the complex and joins them on the platform: Ironbeak. The three exchange greetings.*
Ironbeak: Good to see you, sir. I was hoping you'd check in. You, too, Addrson. Our Admiral has designed a real wonder here.
Addrson: Yes indeed, General, she's a beauty already.
Ironbeak: Sure is. We'll only be able to build just this one, but let's see any other warship take it on and hope to survive!
Ackbar (playfully): How would you know about that, General?
Ironbeak: Well, I've been talking with that being, Shadow, and the Hiigarans on their two other visits here. What you're having built here is...is seriously scary by their standards and even Shadow was impressed with the design. Said it might even be able to take on a Primitus ship. *The normally calm and composed General is extremely excited with the prospect of the vessel's power when it is completed. Ackbar cannot help but smile at his enthusiasm.*
Ackbar: I'm glad you're excited, General. It's good to see you smile for once. If you don't mind, I'm going to fly around for a bit.
Ironbeak/Addrson: Sure thing, Admiral.
*The hawk nods to them both and takes off once more, not flying anywhere in particular. He simply wants to fly and observe.*
Ackbar: Shadow? You there?
Re: Chapter One
The month goes by quickly for the free peoples a new carrier battle group and two new roving lines are completed and assigned sectors and the new Amarr And Caldari Governments sign the first ever unification treaty with the Gallente and the Minmatar also the Reclusive Jovians sign the treaty uniting all of New Eden. Later in the month the free peoples accepted the newly unified C.O.N.C.O.R.D assembly of New Eden into their fold trade between the free peoples and New Eden flourished as trade routes were filled with goods passing through the great trade corridor under the watchful eye of the Free peoples irregulars. The month was also personally good for Roach he got to spend more time with his two sons that he had in a long time and it was good to see his sons bond. Some military changes were also made Roach commissioned a new mechanized force to be outfitted with heavy combat mechs that were being designed by a joint Effort by Kuat Drive Yards, Arda Systems engineering and the Caldari Ishukone Corporation.
