Reeds just kept on whistling as guards and crew cleared out of his path. Eventually, he stopped at a door, the label addressing it as 'Science Lab 2A.' He smiled as he opened the door and Lae saw that the science lab was not small by any means. It was massive, in fact, taking up at least five rooms and two floors entirely on its own. It also seemed to host a massive range of equipment, some of which were entirely foreign to him. With all of the technology, equipment, and stores here, one could only wonder what Reeds' intention was with this lab.

He rolled the cart up next to two others and then proceeded to rummage around for a datapad. "Sit down, my fine lab rat." He said friendly still as he finally found his desired object, turning it own and turning toward Lae, a mischievous grin on his face.

Chapter Two - Page 30 Empty Re: Chapter Two

Post by Fore Admiral Disayle Wed Jul 18, 2012 1:12 pm

--Coronatus--

Maliorax: Greetings, Balmorra. Your arrival was anticipated. I am Major Maliorax, with the Hierarchy Blackwatch. My unit has been investigating this area for evidence of the missing Rachni ships, but we've not found much to go on. No gravitational anomalies, no spent projectile casings, no stray coolant, not even lingering transmission echoes. It's as though they simply disappeared. Perhaps you could run your own scans, see if we missed anything.

*Callurnia tenses, but remains quiet for the time being.*

--Palaven--

*The queen nods.* Tiamat: May whatever gods you hold be with you.

*It turns out that Fields is not meeting with just Fedorian, but the entire Primarch Assembly. A guard directs him to a speaking platform in the Forum, where Fedorian awaits him. Palaven's Primarch greets the IS rep with a smile.*

Fedorian: Ah, good, you're right on time. If you'll stand right next to me, this will only take a bit.

*Fedorian then takes up position on the platform and begins the formalities, speaking in Tel'kra. Fields's translation circuit is able to provide a nearly real-time translation.* Fedorian: Today, the Primarch Assembly welcomes Alanis Fields, ambassador from the Imperial Sovereignty!

*The Primarchs stand and their voices respond in unison.* Primarchs: Ambassador Fields, we welcome you. Come and sit by our hearths with us, and let us trade stories of valor and honor.

Fedorian: Let us pray to the Spirits that this exchange will benefit us all!

Primarchs: So let it be.

*The turians' leaders return to their seats. Fedorian turns to Fields, reverting to Basic.* Fedorian: So, Ambassador Fields, what brings you to Palaven? *As he asks this, the Primarch steps down from the speaker's position on the platform, leaving it vacant for Fields to take.*

--Alba--

*Addrson thinks for a moment, snapping up another piece of lettuce.* Addrson: Though we avians are technically all one race, there are over 10,000 species of us and we vary widely from species to species. To break it down simply, over 99% of avian species can fly, and are called "flyers". The other .6% have evolved to be more adept on the ground, and consequentially are called "runners". Despite this disparity, runners make up about 30% of our population, partially due to consequences from the civil war.

Our government, the Galactic Avian Union, was formed out of the ashes of the 500-Year War from the victorious United Children of Aves. It is currently a benevolent military dictatorship, with Ackbar having executive power and other matters being decided by a High Council of the Generals. We're currently exploring options for a more civilian-oriented government, but...it's been so long since we had anything of the sort... *He pauses and then goes on.* Anyway, we've but recently emerged from a terrible civil war that lasted five hundred years, ravaged our beloved homeworld, and scourged our population from billions to only 150 million. We destroyed entire species of ourselves in the war, but at long last, it is over and we are beginning to rebuild, thanks to Ackbar. Without him, we would have completely destroyed ourselves.

My own species are called Trumpeters. We generally eat fruit and insects, and are not very good fliers, but we can run and climb quite well with our talons. We originally hailed from the jungles and rainforests on the central continent of Corlesha, but that land is now a barren, charred waste thanks to the war. Someday it will be cleaned and restored to the pristine beauty like in the stories told to me as a nestling. But right now, there is so much work to do.

Recorded history on our homeworld extends back around 4,000 years, beyond which we have only legends telling us of a time when magic permeated Aves and all was peaceful. But then, according to these stories, another race revealed itself and invaded us twice over the course of a thousand years, very nearly succeeding the second time. We only stopped the enemy by sacrificing all magic users on Aves and forever precluding any further possibility of any more avians hatching with magical talents...so the legends say. One name that has survived from the tales to this day is "Sapare", said to be the one who lead our people to victory in the second war.

At the beginning of our recorded history, most of the runners on Aves entered into indentured servitude with the flyers to fulfill a debt, the specifications of which are unclear. Through this time, Aves remained divided into many various and usually small nations and kingdoms, usually bound together by features their citizens had in common. A few centuries later, runner slavery was commonplace, as was prejudice against them. These slaves saw us through our Iron Age all the way to the late Information Age, until the advent of the Golden Times. This was a brief but significant period that began when a reform-minded leader, Sapare the Great, united all flyers and swore to abolish runner slavery. This greatly angered a fringe group called the True Children of Aves, who believed that only flyers deserved to live. They assassinated Sapare the Great, managing to pin it on the runners, and created a tide of public fear and anger that they then used to seize power. At first, the True Children parceled out their plans in stages, slowly chipping away at the runners' hard-earned freedoms, but soon became impatient and initiated a "holy war of cleansing" against the runners, marshalling the united flyers' considerable might to wipe them off the face of Aves. At the same time, the True Children instituted a police state back home, along with conscription. All opposition one the homefront was squashed, with lethal force at the slightest provocation.

By contrast, the runners were fragmented and their military power weak. Within the first few years of the war, they were almost annihilated...but their boon proved to be an avian underground resistance movement that opposed the True Children, sabotaged their directives, and gave the runners crucial support. With the resistance's help, the runners held on and were able to take back much of their territory lost in the war's early stages--though this recovery took nearly three hundred years. Additionally, the resistance planted operatives at many of the True Children's military academies to recruit more avians to their cause.

The next one hundred and fifty years settled into a brutal, grisly stalemate. Neither one side could gain a significant advantage over the other, and as the war intensified, so did the weapons and technology deployed, and so did the damage to Aves and its people. By the 450th year of the war, our total population was down to 150 million and only 20% of Aves's surface was still habitable. But then things took an unexpected turn when the True Children's greatest military mind, General Koros, suddenly defected to the runners. This left the True Children scrambling for a leader to replace and, more importantly, defeat him. They found it in our very own Ackbar, who hatched in the 488th year of the war. The resistance had a double agent at the academy that trained him, and subtly manipulated him to kill Koros--not defeat him, for defeat would mean capture and interrogation, a ruinous setback for the runners if it ever happened. Ackbar befriended both Koros's son--a political prisoner of the True Children--and myself at the Academy before that. I've never been the best military student and the others mocked me for my weak flight skills, but I was very good at organization and multitasking, so Ackbar took me on as his assistant of sorts. Then, upon defeating Koros himself, Ackbar set in motion a chain of events that lead to him learning the truth about the True Children's rise to power. The resistance manipulated the True Children into killing Ackbar's parents and the love of his life, to drive him further into the runners' talons. And it worked.

Angry beyond belief and in pain, Ackbar fled with myself and Koros's son (who is now our very own General Ironbeak) to the runners and though they were reluctant to trust him at first, allowed him to lead them to a True Children superweapon and destroy it. After that...Ackbar was a changed avian. He became fanatically committed to not just winning the war, but ending it completely. Though he seemed calmer on the outside, on the inside, it was a different story...at any rate, he led the runners and the flyer resistance to final victory on the first day of the war's 500th year. We thought the worst of our troubles were finally over, but then a starship crashed on Aves. That started a whole new round of problems.

*Panting, Addrson finishes his story.*

While Fields did not quite expect such an event to occur, he retains his posture and sat next to Fedorian. "I come on behalf my people to learn about the Turian people. To that end, we wish to facilitate trade agreements. This is to, at least, open up a means to communicate between eachother more freely, and pave the way for future developments. Perhaps at a later date, we may open embassies. Does this sound acceptable so far?" He states clearly, undaunted by the number of people. Though mentally, his mind was actively blocking out every emotion broadcasted by the many people in the chamber in order to remain stable.

*The Primarchs consider the offer.* Primarch of Taetrus: It is a good offer, Ambassador, but--please forgive any slight--what can you offer us?

*Fields can take visible note that several of the Primarchs in the War Faction appear distracted, checking their omni-tools every few moments.*

Fields smiles at the Primarchs query, as if expecting such a question to appear. "It would depend on your desires, Primarch." He said, holding out his hand forward, as if to show something. Soon after, a large emerald gem appeared, visibly constructed atom by atom by a green energy spray emerging from a device attached to his wrist. "We have much to offer for the right price and purpose." He hands the gem over to Fedorian, as if wanting him to take it. If he were to take the gem, he would find that it was real, not some hologram.

"Whether it be the basics you require, such as food, medicine, or various metals, or perhaps some social technologies, such as what I just displayed: an energy-matter converter that fits within this watch, I am certain my people can provide. Does that pique your interest, Primarch?" Fields asked, smiling still, but not in a smug way.

*Fields' demonstration immediately triggers a firestorm in the chamber--the turians immediately begin talking urgently among themselves. Fedorian takes the jewel and runs a scan on it with his omni-tool, amazed to find that it is a 100% authentic emerald.* Fedorian: By the Spirits, Ambassador, you certainly know how to make an impression. A jewel is one thing, but I can already think of several dozen military applications for this technology--and doubtlessly, my fellows share my sentiments.

*True to his word, another Primarch stands.* Primarch of Invictus: Consider our interest piqued, Ambassador. But such a gift is never given freely--what would you want from us in return?

--Coronatus System--

*At first, the ship's scanners pick up only a few odd radiation pulses around the system, but then at the fifth planet--last in the system--the sensors find traces of a strange signal that no-one recognizes. Callurnia whispers urgently to Tirian.* Callurnia: I strongly recommend you not say anything about that signal. Something's not right here...I'll explain later. Please just trust me and tell him you found nothing of import.

Maliorax: Reckless. But then again, you humans tend to be like that. *After delaying for unknown reasons, the Hierarchy vessels leave the system.*

Callurnia: Good, they're gone. Now I can finally talk freely. Those guys aren't who they said they were. For one, their ships bore the emblem of Galatana--but how could you have known that, anyway? For another, they didn't send any Blackwatch recognition codes. Primarch Fedorian specifically told me they would do that. *She pauses.* Galatana was one of the more prominent worlds in the War faction. They were trying to hide something, or else I'm a vorcha.

*Suddenly, additional ships appear on the Balmorra's sensors and send the Federation ship a hail.*

*The reply is curt.* Praetorius: You can start by actually making sure that you're talking to the Blackwatch next time. I'm Captain Praetorius, and unlike our friend Maliorax, I'm not a fraud.

Callurnia: Those bastards--I knew it!!

*A small hint of emotion comes into the voice on the other line.* Praetorius: Is that you, Commander Tacitus?

Callurnia: No kidding, Mr. Stick-up-his-[censored].

Praetorius: Like I need authentication after that. But here's mine, just like the Primarch said. *The ships forward several information packets that identify them as true Blackwatch vessels.* Now that we've got that squared away, let me tell you what's really going on.

My unit got here first, just barely. We had time for a few initial sweeps of the system before those false idiots arrived, and our scans turned up some disturbing information. Best we can tell, there was a battle here, but it was neither long nor bloody. Someone wanted to either destroy those Rachni ships quickly or capture them, but there are no signs pointing to ships being destroyed. Additionally, we found traces of a weird-[censored] signal that we've never seen before, but regardless of where it came from, it's a jammer of some kind...though it doesn't effect our comms very well. We think it's tailored to something else--possibly to block Rachni telepathy, but I'm not sure that's even possible and if it is, no-one out here has even close to the tech level to develop something like that. There's something more going on here, for sure.

Callurnia: Why did you stealth up when the others arrived?

Praetorius: To see what they did. Furthermore, there's no telling what they would have done, finding Blackwatch ships here. But what they did was worse. There wasn't much evidence to start with, but they did their damn best to eradicate what's left of it. They're definitely up to something.

Callurnia: That's for sure. What the hell do we do now?

Praetorius: Some more digging. Tirian, is it? Is your ship equipped with stealth technology of any kind?

"While I cannot allow this technology to be used for military reasons just yet, Primarch, we can provide some specialized Nanolathers, as we call them, for social purposes. Perhaps later we can show you in better detail how they function. What we are interested in the most is any information or salvage you may have on the Primitus. Whether it be ruins, outposts, tactical analysis, the likes would be acceptable. If you do not, then we can trade technology. We are always looking for new directions to traverse." Fields stated matter-of-factually. "Anything of those varieties will be compensated accordingly, of course."

*Fedorian looks slightly crestfallen, but shakes it off quickly.* Fedorian: Very well, I believe we have some of what you're looking for--ruins, mainly, and data gathered during that battle above New Song. We'll have to discuss the specifics later.

*He takes the platform.* Let us have a vote. All in favor of opening diplomatic relations with the Imperial Sovereignty?

*Hundreds of hands rise, more than enough to pass the measure. Fields can note that several War Faction Primarchs do not give their assent, and seem to pay only marginal attention to the proceedings, instead being focused on studiously checking their omni-tools.*

--Alba--

Addrson: It was a Special Operations vessel from the Hiigaran Daiamid, sent on a secret mission to gather data from Primitus ruins that went horribly wrong. Only one operative, codenamed "Wraith", escaped the catastrophe and was pursued across the galaxy by an automated Primitus patrol ship until it caught up with her and heavily damaged her ship over Aves, forcing her to crash-land on the planet. When we investigated, the Primitus ship attacked us, extracted something from the wreckage, and then obliterated it. Ackbar broke his wing in the attack, when his airship crashed into a mountain after the enemy vessel nearly destroyed it. However, Wraith escaped, and while our Admiral recovered, we captured her and with some...outside help, we were able to communicate. We managed to convince her to cooperate with us, and when her people arrived at Aves, we were able to initiate first contact without any bloodshed. After seeing the destruction that one patrol ship could wreak, Ackbar became...obsessed with the idea that the Primitus were returning and commissioned the construction of colony ships to carry our people to the stars and a warship to defend us out there. It only took us months to build the vessels, because the arms race in the 500-Year War had advanced our technology so far that it was actually much more sophisticated than the Hiigarans.

Once the warship was complete, Ackbar--his wing fully healed--christened it the Spirit of Aves in honor of our homeworld and our people and took it on its first mission: a joint operation with the Hiigarans to scour the ruins that Wraith's team had looked through, in hopes of finding more complete data. It all went well, but then Primitus patrol drones discovered us, attacked us, and cut us off from retreating. The battle was going badly until a Morrigi flotilla that was in the area arrived and aided us. When the odds turned against them, the Primitus retreated--but not in the way we thought they would. Two ships went to Aves, destroying one of our colony fleets along the way, and the Spirit of Aves followed them and managed to destroy them. Another portion attacked Hiigara, which only barely repelled them. The Morrigi and the Hiigarans' Dreadnought pursued the final part of the Primitus fleet to the World of New Song, where a terrible battle was already underway between the turians, the Rachni, and the Federation. With the Primitus's arrival, the enemies banded together to fight the worse foe, and after dealing with the Primitus ships at Aves, our warship went to help as well. The combined forces of the turians, the Hiigarans, the Morrigi, ourselves, and the Rachni were able to defeat that Primitus armada, but Ackbar said the worst was yet to come and he is now trying with every fiber of his being to find proof. Which is partially why I'm here.

Does that answer your question, High Senator?

Fields hums to himself when he does note the primarchs that did not vote. In his mind, he actually starts to tune in on their emotions, noting each and every being not voting for the proceedings, and memorizing them to as much detail as he can. To Fedorian, it might seem a bit odd that Fields is staring at each individual primarch of the war faction. Unfortunately for Fields, though, he couldn't tune in on their thoughts.

"Yes, quite thoroughly!" Norrmar replies. He then muses for a while. "Hiigarans, you say? Gal'Gai and Hiigarans are parallel races. Most Gal'Gai historians believe that, when the Primitus had enslaved the galaxy, Gal'Gai were genetically modified Hiigarans built for the purpose of doing manual labor too physically demanding. We are stronger, taller, faster, and longer-lived than Hiigarans. In fact, from a purely physical standpoint, the Gal'Gai are a superior race in every way except mental capacity. In that aspect we are equal. We even have a saying about it: 'Gal'Gai er störe Broðirannu'. Gal'Gai are the big brothers."

--Palaven--

*Once the voting is done, Fedorian continues.* Fedorian: Excellent, excellent! Ambassador, would you like us to build an embassy for you, or will your people do it here on Palaven? If you desire, I will make the arrangements so a construction team from the IS can get here in expedited fashion.

--Alba--

(You would play the "superior race" card. Razz)

Addrson: Well, then, High Senator, you may wish to send a delegation to Hiigara to make contact with your "little brothers". *A mischievous gleam comes into the trumpeter's eye.* If you do, you'll notice that they do have you beat on one very important thing--their females are prettier.

--Coronatus--

*Praetorius acknowledges the cloak with a grunt.* Praetorius: Good. Alright, here's the plan. Now that we've isolated this jamming signal, I'm going to take most of my ships to run recon on the war faction's worlds--if we pick it up, we'll know the Rachni are on there. From there we'll triangulate the signal's origin as best we can and land in secret on the planet in question to find its source. Balmorra, you should probably come with us. Meanwhile, I'll send a few ships to snoop around those damn imposters and see what else they're up to. Are we clear?

Fields takes a final count and memorization of the war faction primarchs, then turns to Fedorian, smiling. "One of my ships in orbit can start construction immediately, if you don't mind it sending automated drones. It will save you the resources, and we are willing to build wherever you tell us to. Also, as a gesture of goodwill, we will turn some of these drones over after the embassy is completed. To initiate the trade." Fields stated, unconcerned about handing over the drones. It is relatively easy to hard-wire limits into them to refrain from building weapons.

(No one plays as the Hiigarans. I need something to make Gal'Gai special. Also, they're not brute force, they are highly technologically advanced, and use counter-methods in conflict)

"We've already made contact with them. You could imagine the surprise on both ends to find life that looked exactly the same! And on the topic of Hiigaran Females: You obviously haven't seen the best of what the Gal'Gai race has to offer. Although in all honesty, the Primitus did not make either race more attractive than the other. If you want real, true beauty, go to the Catani Casino. The place is run by a Marentanz, and all of the employees are of the same race. I can say that one hasn't seen beauty until they've been served by a Marentanz waitress."

At this remark, Norrmar reclines in his chair, and puts his arms behind his head, presumably fantasizing about the particular waitress he was referring to. After he is done daydreaming, he continues, saying: "Of course, you can't cheat: the Marentanz are Force-sensitive and will sense it. But I digress. Are there any questions you have about the SRI and the Gal'Gai people?"

--Nar Shadda---

Slavik: Fine i will go to yaga minor under diplomatic circumstances as a cover and you can see what you can find.

--Coronatus--

Tirian: "Very well the plan is sound besides our sensors are more advanced than your may be useful in finding the rachni or the jamming signal."
